    NPower PA Technology Awards Luncheon

So here’s one of those organizations that makes me proud to be an IT Person: www.npower.org – IT folks of various competencies providing free or discounted services and training to non-profit entities in cities throughout the US. For those of you who don’t know my history, I spent some of my formative years as the IT Services Director for the Salvation Army’s regional offices in Philadelphia, who remain one of the most impressive non-profits I’ve ever worked with.

Some statistics from the Pennsylvania NPower chapter that impressed me (taken from www.npowerpa.org):

  • In 2007 a total of 144 clients received 22,704 hours of consulting services.
  • 280 individual projects (40 hours average) were undertaken with organizations to improve their stability and/or effectiveness.
  • Over the past 2 years NPower has provided 123 organizations with Stable and Secure Technology Assessments. These assessments provide the foundation of our work with a nonprofit, giving us crucial information on their needs, goals, and a clear idea of what projects need to be undertaken.
  • 75 organizations now rely on NPower PA for regular technology maintenance. This service demonstrates an organization's commitment to being stable and secure and provides the regular maintenance they need to remain so.
  • In 2007 246 individuals received 2,214 hours of training.
  • All told, we have served over 600 nonprofits in some way, whether through training, workshops, or services.

I will be attending the PA Chapter’s awards luncheon in Philadelphia on Friday, sponsored by Microsoft, The Judge Group, and a number of other organizations. Looking forward to seeing people there!
